World Cup-winning Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi is waiting for either Arsenal or Everton to trigger his release clause, reports claim. The France midfielder is trying to use his improved status following Les Bleus’ triumph in Russia to earn a contract worth up to £3.5m-a-year. The 29-year-old is prepared to hold out for as long as possible in the hope that either Unai Emery or Marco Silva will move to trigger his release clause and meet his wage demands, according to Gazetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness).
The former Stoke midfielder does, however, reportedly have an offer from Serie A side Roma on the table but the Champions League semi-finalists are only prepared to offer the Frenchman £2.7m-a-year. N’Zonzi will hold out for as long as possible before accepting the lower offer from Rome, with his departure from Sevilla expected to materialise one way or another. Sevilla president Jose Castro recently issued a hands off warning to Arsenal over N’Zonzi amid reports the former Stoke midfielder is a top target for Unai Emery. Sevilla’s sporting director added that N’Zonzi is due to report back at the club a day before the English transfer window shuts on August 9.
