Thomas Vermaelen believes he will get a chance to shine again for Arsenal. The Belgian has been pushed out of the team due to the strong partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
Vermaelen’s injury in pre-season saw him fall behind the rest of the team in terms of fitness but played the entire 120 minutes of the Capital One Cup victory over West Brom as he brings himself back to full fitness and ready to challenge for a first team spot.
“If I keep training hard, I’ll get my chance again. I do not like no playing.”
The defender accepts that he will have to take his chance when it comes but is confident he will get that chance due to the rotation needed to survive the fixture congestion.
“There are so many games in a season that my chance will come anyway.”
When he is given the chance, there will be no room mistake with his job of overtaking Koscielny and Mertesacker already difficult enough.
The 27-year old remains the club’s captain but the team have been led out by Per Mertesacker since the start of the season with vice-captain Mikel Arteta only returning as a substitute against Stoke City last weekend.
