Jack Wilshere has admitted he is embarrassed with his goals tally for Arsenal. The player has been a regular since he made his debut apart from the 18 months he spent out injured between 2011 and 2012.
With Wilshere now wearing the number 10 after Robin Van Persie’s departure, he feels he needs to score more goals to earn the right to wear it.
“I used to joke with Robin that when he left, the shirt was mine.”
“It was the number I wore in the youth teams and in the reserves. Number 10 is the job I want; in the middle of things, moving the ball forward.”
“I’d like to score more goals. Right not my goal ratio is embarrassing, but my job is to make things happen, be creative.”
Wilshere’s desire for scoring has increased after watching midfield colleague Aaron Ramsey net eight goals already this season. However, Wilshere remains one of Arsenal’s brightest creative forces, which he states is his job.
Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas had a similar situation infront of goal but found a rich vein of form which has also happened to Ramsey so it’s likely the same will happen to Wilshere too.
With the likes of Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott, Wilshere wont be short of creative options to assist him in the goal scoring department.
