Remember those years when Arsenal go for a player but other clubs go in and beat us to their signing? Or those times when we are interested in a particular player but the player decides to go elsewhere? Hazard, Mata, David Villa, Jan Vertoghen among others either rejected us or were hijacked from us by other clubs.
Fortunately for us, that is now in the past. According to reports from the German media, Bayern Munich and Germany international attacker Mario Gotze has made it clear to both Liverpool and Dortmund that he does not want to play for them as he sees a move to either of the two clubs as a step down in his career. And to make it sweeter, the Germany world cup hero reportedly claimed a move to Arsenal or Barca or Real Madrid will appeal to him more.
And with both Barca and Real Madrid not having any need for a player in Mario Gotze’s position unless they sell some of their players, Arsenal have a free road to sign Gotze this summer should Wenger want to. Also, both Chelsea and Manchester United are not in the Champions league next season which means they won’t be competitors for his signature.
With everyone, and I believe including Wenger, frustrated with Theo Walcott, signing Marip Gotze will be a massive upgrade and a statement of intent from us to the rest of the league and Europe. The world cup winner will greatly improve us and the fact that he can play in various positions including as a false nine makes it even sweeter.
