Arsenal’s new record signing Mesut Ozil has told a French television station, TF1 the reason why he left Real Madrid for Arsenal. Ozil signed for Arsenal in a 42.5 million pounds deal on the very last day of the summer transfer window to become Arsenal’s new record signing.
Ozil confirmed to the French television station, TF1 that he never wanted to leave Real Madrid but he had to make the hard decision of leaving Real Madrid as a result of him feeling unwanted by Madrid’s new manager.
“For me, it’s very important to have the confidence of the coach. At the end of last season, I was certain I would stay at Real Madrid, but there was a moment when I didn’t feel that trust. Conversely, I felt it with Arsenal.”
Ozil also added that Wenger’s persuasion power made him join Arsenal. Also in the same program, Wenger explains how his past effort to sign the player made it easy for him to finally sign his man in the summer.
“We first met in my house, to be discreet. I think that Özil was convinced in just 24 hours. PSG were interested, but I had the advantage as three years ago, before his move to Madrid, I had negotiated for him. That’s how I knew him and the fact that I speak German gave him peace of mind in making his decision.”
