Petr Cech has admitted he would like to stay at Arsenal this summer, despite the fact his contract expires at the end of the season and they haven’t negotiated an extension.

Cech, now 36, has spent most of the season acting as a backup to Bernd Leno, ever since an injury forced the Arsenal number 1 out of the team back in September. As a result, there’s been some speculation that he might leave the club at the end of the campaign, with his contract set to expire.

The player himself insists that he wants to stay though. Cech admitted nothing is agreed at this stage, and he hasn’t even received an offer to extend yet. However, he doesn’t feel stressed about it, and he expects to hold talks with Arsenal in the coming months.

“I would like to stay but we are in January,” Cech told Monday’s Standard Sport. “The season is long so you never know what will happen. I don’t feel stressed or pressed about when we sit and when we talk. I just do my job and in the end, we can easily sit and discuss it, so we will see.

“I haven’t [had an offer yet] and after the transfer window we will talk and see where we are.”

t’s starting to reach the point where final decisions are made on whether players with expiring contracts will stay or not. Aaron Ramsey looks close to agreeing on a deal with Juventus, Nacho Monreal has reportedly had his contract extended to 2020, it seems only a matter of time before similar decisions are made for Cech and Danny Welbeck.

Knowing Cech, we can fully expect him to remain professional until the end of the season, regardless of the decision on what happens next.
