Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has urged the club to step up their interest in Liverpool’s Luis Suarez. The Gunners have already had a £30 million offer rejected but the France striker wants the club to make an improved bid.
Despite Suarez acting as competition with Giroud for a striker spot at Arsenal, Giroud would welcome the South American’s arrival and believes they could form a deadly duo.
“Luis Suarez is someone with whom I could form a good understanding on the pitch.”
“So I am in favour of him coming to Arsenal and I am not afraid of the competition for places his arrival would bring out.”
The tall forward has been on fire in pre-season for the Gunners netting 5 goals in 65 minutes over 2 games. However he feels his own game would improve should they manage to lure Suarez to the Emirates.
“From a personal viewpoint I aim to do better than last season, by scoring more than 17 goals and providing more than 10 assists.”
Should Arsenal pair the two attackers together, they would be playing with a ‘little and big’ striker partnership that was popular a few years ago. The idea was that the ‘big’ striker would win the aerial challenges, get on the end of crosses and use their strength well while the ‘little’ striker would have more pace and trickery to fully maximize the chance of a goal.
Giroud and Suarez could make that work but first Arsenal have to break the resolve of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and that would require the club to break the bank.
