Mesut Ozil’s former team mate Alvaro Arbeloa has claimed he thought Ozil was joking when he told his former team mates at Real Madrid he was joining Arsenal. Arsenal completed the signing of the high rated German international in a sensational 42.5 million pounds deal on the transfer deadline day.
Arbeloa says he didn’t see it coming and he was certain Ozil was joking when he said his good bye to his team mates.
Alvaro Arbeloa says he thought Mesut Ozil’s goodbye on Sunday “was a joke” before realising his team-mate was moving to Arsenal.
He also told AS: ‘I’m a little bit surprised, it’s a shame, and it’s a big loss to the dressing room, on a footballing level and on a personal level too.
“He said goodbye to us on Sunday, but I thought he was joking. He’s very different, there’s no player like him in the world. He makes the difference on the pitch.
“He’ll have his reasons for moving. But we will keep looking forward, we have other great players. I understand it’s tough for the fans, they loved him. He is a phenomenon and got on well with everyone. It’s a real loss.”
Arbeloa joins the growing list of Real Madrid players who have voiced their disappointment and disbelieve at Ozil been allowed by Real Madrid to sign for Arsenal. Ronaldo had earlier stated he is unhappy about the player leaving while Real Madrid’s summer purchase Isco has said the move leaves a ” bad taste in the mouth”.
