Hector Bellerin rise to fame at Arsenal was sudden and the youngster has grown from leaps and bounds since making his debut for Arsenal in 2014.
Last year Wenger said: ”Considering his first game, at Dortmund, and what I think of him today, that’s credit to him, because he had a bit of a nightmare away from home in Dortmund.”
The former Barcelona man is a vital cog at The Emirates these days and he didn’t think he was that bad in his first game.
He told Sport magazine: “I saw it a completely different way.
“I just thought: ‘Listen, this is Dortmund away in the Champions League, so I’ve got the hardest game that I can play out of the way. Now, whatever comes, it’s going to be easier for me’.
“That was how I was looking at it.
“Since then there haven’t been many games that I have had all that pressure – you know, for an 18-year-old kid to play in that stadium is hard.
“But it was the right moment for me because I don’t think I was as ready as I should have been at that point.
“It made me realise how much I still had to work and improve.”
