This must have come as a shock as to Claudio Raniery and Leicester City with the club’s most valuable player Riyad Mahrez rejecting an improve contract from the Premier League Champions, per various reports.
Ironically, what has been termed as a bad news for Leicester city has now turned out as a good news for Arsenal who have been on the chase for the player from the inception of the summer. Reports emerged last week that the player had agreed personal terms with Arsenal and Wenger was spotted watching the player in their pre-season game.
This is certainly good news for Arsenal. Our style of play will suit Mahrez and although Ranieri keeps saying the player will stay at Leicester beyond the transfer window, I personally believe it is a matter of when and not if the player will leave Leicester. However, with Chelsea also interested, Arsenal may stand the risk of losing out on his signing.
Arsenal are known to always hijack deals of other club’s target like they did in the case of Pedro Rodriguez. Nonetheless, Arsenal not only a big club but Champions League contenders, this is enough to lure Mahrez to the Emirates.
But if reports claiming Arsenal have been in talks with the player is anything to go by, then we probably have given ourselves the advantage in the race for his signature. Imagine having Lacazette, Mahrez, Ozil and Sanchez in the same team. That is a title winning side.
