Arsenal make the short trip to Wembley on Saturday (12.30pm) to face bitter rivals Tottenham having won the reverse fixture last November.
There is more than local pride at stake for both teams with the race for the top four hotting up and Wenger is hoping his players can keep their cool.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, he said: “You have to find a good balance between rational and emotional.
“You have not to let the emotions take over.
“At the end of the day it is down to making good decisions on the pitch.”
Wenger is well aware what this game means to the supporters having spent 21 years in charge of Arsenal but the need to pick up three points against their top-four rivals is of paramount importance.
“[I have] huge passion before the game,” he said.
“I worked with Pat Rice for many years, he of course got me very quickly on that territory.
“It is a game that is a bit more charged emotionally.
“This season if you look at the table for us it’s a very important game.”
Arsenal could be without goalkeeper Petr Cech (calf) so David Ospina is set to deputise between the sticks.
Defender Nacho Montreal should be available but forward Danny Welbeck is a doubt.
