The arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has gone a long way to appease the departure of Alexis Sanchez this month.

Arsene Wenger has become notorious for keeping his wallet tightly shut during the January transfer window but Sanchez’s exit brought out a new side in the Frenchman. Defensive problems remain, yet there can no complaints over the state of the Gunners’ frontline.

Arsenal fans are particularly excited about the chemistry between Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang who both plied their trade at Borussia Dortmund between 2013 and 2016.

In their final season together in Germany, their stats were nothing short of staggering with a combined total of 62 goals and 44 assists before Mkhitaryan moved on to United.

The links between the two are abundant with Mkhitaryan even filming a special ‘Yo Pierre’ video for his old teammate’s arrival and the duo being linked by Arsenal’s new, ex-Dortmund chief scout.

“I’m really happy [to be at the same club as Micki again],” Aubameyang informed Arsenal Player.

“He’s really like a brother, a good friend, and we’ve played together in the past. I’m really happy to see him again.

“He called me a few times and he asked me, ‘Will you come or not?’ and I said, ‘First you have to tell me if you sign or not!’ Then he told me it was all done, and of course it was a big factor in coming here.

“I think we understand each other on and off the pitch. I think that’s why it’s a little bit easier on the pitch.”
