Arsenal officially seals the signing of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in a deal of around £55m. This is coming as a big boost for the Gunners after losing Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott in the same window.
Olivier Giroud has also left Arsenal and joins Chelsea in a deal worth around £17m plus add ons. After announcing the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Arsene Wenger now has a flurry of attacking talents at his disposal and it will be interesting how he will line them all up which gives a lot of confident to bet on Arsenal. We will look at some of the formations we could be seeing often at the Emirates in coming games.
With Petr Cech set to keep his place in the team, the gunners are likely to revert back to a back four which has Monreal, Bellerin, Koscielny and Mustafi keeping their place with Kolasinac being the backup option to Monreal.
The defensive shield Arsenal have been using is Granit Xhaka but it seems he would be having a tough challenge from Mohammed Elneny as the season progresses. Wilshere and Ozil are likely favourite to start. Arsenal first choice striker now will have to be the Gabonesse striker as he is the most lethal of all the attacking option at the club.
Iwobi and Mkhitaryan provide the width needed on the flanks and will complete the attacking trio with Lacazette being a back up to Aubameyang.
Arsene Wenger could decide to stick to the formation he used for the latter part of last season and which he has used this season also. This allows him to accommodate all his new signings in the line up but shrink the opportunity players like Wilshere gets in the team.
With the normal back three which has become known at Arsenal consisting of Monreal, Koscielny and Mustafi, it seems all is sorted out with that part of the team with Cech keeping his place. Bellerin and Kolasinac hold down the wing back position doing the tackling and cover up.
A natural defensive minded player is needed to shield the team and Xhaka thick the box. Ozil and Mkhitaryan does the creative job of the team and they also provide the assists for the two deadly attackers up front in Lacazette and Aubameyang. The advantage of this formation is that it gives the gunners very strong bench to call on.
The major difference will come in the defensive aspect as a player will be sacrifice from the defence line for a a midfielder. The most likely player is Kolasinac. The left back will have to take a place on the bench with Bellerin, Koscielny, Mustafi and Monreal taking the four available spots.
Wilshere will have a stake in this kind of formation at this point in time because he and Xhaka will have to do the job in terms of controlling the game and man marking any opponent of threat. Ozil and Mkhitaryan will both play from middle and drift to the flanks depending on the way the game is shaping up. Lacazette and Aubameyang keep their place in the lineup.
Whichever lineup Wenger decides to put on display when all these players are available will be a very strong team attacking wise and a threat to any defence in England.
