Gonzalo Higuain’s long awaited transfer to Arsenal could be completed as early as today. According to daily star.
Real Madrid and Arsenal have agreed a fee in the region of £22 million with the striker agreeing to personal terms, believed to be a four-year deal worth £130,000-a-week. Arsenal executives were in Madrid over the weekend to try and finalise the deal and all that’s left is his medical.
Daily star are reporting a close Arsenal source said “I am convinced that today the ex-River Plate striker will have a medical.” Reports have suggested that the Gunners medical team has also travelled to Spain to complete the medical there, however these are still unconfirmed. Regardless of location, the medical is expected to be completed tonight so the deal can be completed.
The Argentine scored 16 league goals last season but spent most of his time on the bench, prompting a move away this summer. Arsenal are thought to have successfully fended off interest from Serie A champions Juventus to sign the South American.
The transfer was expected to be confirmed by the end of the week but reports suggest the news could be bought forward with Arsenal eager to complete the deal as soon as possible. The Gunners want Higuain to join up with the squad before they start pre-season so they can switch their attention to other targets.
Higuain’s arrival would be the first big signing at the Emirates since they gained huge financial power. The club have a rumoured £70 million transfer kitty with Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini Wenger’s next targets. Higuain’s transfer would still leave just under £50 million to invest in improving the squad.
