Arsenal’s pursuit of star summer signings has been given a further boost with Gonzalo Higuain insisting the club would be a ‘perfect fit’ for him. The Real Madrid striker has admitted he will be leaving the Bernabeu this summer and has been heavily linked with moves to both the Gunners and Serie A champions Juventus.
Juventus have also been linked with Arsenal target Fiorentina hit man Stevan Jovetic and it’s highly likely that one player will join the Old Lady and the other will play their trade in the Premier League.
Jovetic’s move to Arsenal has stalled with Arsene Wenger refusing to meet the £25 million valuation, offering £5 million less than the estimateof the Viola and so attentions could well move to focus on Madrid’s Higuain. The Argentine has had a frustrating season playing as back-up to Karim Benzema and also seeing Jose Callejon enjoying the limelight while he sat on the bench.
It seems a move for Higuain is almost guaranteed with a lower value of £20 million and with the player stating a move to Arsenal would interest him despite interest from Liverpool and North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. It had been thought previously that Higuain would be involved in a deal to bring Gareth Bale to Madrid but now it seems a straight money deal will be offered instead.
The Argentina international said”Arsenal? They would suit me, I’m still young and I have goals. There are many possibilities. I want to go to a league where I’ll be put to the test.”
Arsenal have been given a huge war chest for the summer and have been linked with moves for Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, Barcelona’s David Villa, Michu of Swansea City aswell as Jovetic and Higuain. Rooney has also opened the door to a move to Arsenal aslong as the club can match his £250,00-a-week wages. Rooney’s Premier League experience and natural success would make him a primary target over Higuain but the Madridsta’s wages will be lower than Rooney’s, suiting Arsenal.
David Villa is another player that is close to a move to Arsenal. A transfer was close in January however Barcelona refused to sell the Spanish international. With Neymar Jr. now signed, the Catalans are willing to offload Villa and Arsenal have reignited their interest. The transfer fee of Villa would be at a much more reduced price of around £11 million, another significant factor leading to an Arsenal purchase.
For many seasons, Arsenal have had to sit back and watch their best players leave while their rivals sign some of the planet’s best players but not the Gunners have the ammunition to bring some of those players to the Emirates, and they seem willing to join.
