Arsenal has been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s star midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Dortmund has been battling hard to have him renew his contract, but this has taken another twist. He was reportedly interested in joining the Gunners.
According to quotes from Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke and Mkhitaryan’s agent Mino Raiola, the transfer is getting clearer by the day.
The CEO has made it clear that the player has decided not to renew his contract with the Bundesliga giant, and his representative has been working rigorously to secure a deal for the player in the English premier league. His destination is still unknown to anybody, but Arsenal fans are hoping that the player would stick by his words and join the Gunners.
Although the player’s agent Mino Raiola has confirmed Mkhitaryan will like to sign for Manchester United, that could well be the agent doing his work, trying to drum up interest for his client. Surely, he will improve the current Manchester United team, but why will he want to go to United where he won’t be playing in the Champions league next season and despite he saying he will like to one day play for Arsenal?
The Opportunity to play Uefa champions league next season at Arsenal has put Arsenal in pole position to sign the midfielder who has earlier expressed his interest in signing for the Gunners.
The coming of Mkhitaryan will be a healthy headache for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who has Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil competing for the same position. The fact that Theo Walcott is set to leave Arsenal makes it easier to deploy the attacker on the right flank as a perfect replacement and he will also be a perfect deputy to high flying German International Mesut Ozil.
