The 22-year-old will address the famed Guild on February 5, becoming the first Gunners player to speak and host a guest lecture there

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has been invited to speak to the prestigious Oxford Union.

The Spain international will be holding a Q&A and open conversation on February 5 with members of the guild on what it takes to reach an elite level and become one of the top one per cent of athletes in the world.

Bellerin, who has a degree in marketing, is widely known to have interests off the field including business, fashion and philanthropy — recently donating £50 for every minute he played at the Under-21 European Championships to the victims of the Grenfell Tower Fire.

Oxford Union is best known for its high-profile speaker events and followers of the guild will be aiming to be inspired by Bellerin’s personal stories and experiences of both success and failure.

Bellerin will become the first Arsenal player to speak and host a guest lecture at the Guild, with Gunners team-mate Mesut Ozil also scheduled to address the chamber on February 20. Previous sporting guests include Diego Maradona, Edwin van der Sar, Sir Geoff Hurst and cricket star Brian Lara.

Regarded as one of the fastest footballers in the world, 22-year-old Bellerin started his career in the famed La Masia youth system at Barcelona before moving to Arsenal in 2011.
