According to Football Weeks sources, Arsenal are said to be set to reignite interest in Leicester City and Algeria international Riyad Mahrez, with Arsene Wenger intent on reinforcing the wing.
The news media citing reports from Algeria outlet Le Buteur, – which same outlet reported last summer that Mahrez was close to joining Arsenal – claim the Gunners are said to approach the Foxes with an improved bid for the 2016 BBC African Footballer of the year.
Undeniably, our need for new signings on the wings are now obvious and this has become Arsene Wenger’s top priority for the winter transfer window. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left the club for Liverpool in the summer while Alexis Sanchez seems to be heading towards the exit door sooner or later.
Mahrez would be a smart move and the right replacement on the Chilean as the Algerian star has already been used to the playing life at the Premier League.
Another positive thing about Arsenal’s pursuit of him per report from Football Weeks, is that Mahrez will be able to “participate for the club in the Europa League, if a deal is done in January itself”. The Foxes had earlier insisted on a €50 million asking price for Mahrez and if Arsenal could afford that, they could finally see their demands as the transfer window approaches.
