“He Moves Centrally, Play In Different Positions And………………. – Wenger Reveals Why He Signed La Liga Star

Arsene Wenger has revealed the qualities that made him go all the way to sign Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna.

The Arsenal manager hopes to wrap up the signings of Perez and Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi before the end of the day, following the £34m purchase of Granit Xhaka from German side Borussia Monchengladbach before the Euro 2016 Championships.

Perez notched an impressive 17 goals in 36 La Liga appearances for Deportivo last term and last weekend, he scored the winning goal for his side to help them secure a 2-1 win. The Spanish forward has never played Champions League football before or been called up by Spain, but Wenger thinks Perez has the qualities to succeed at an elite European club.

“He’s a late developer because he played in a different position. He moved centrally and in a successful way”, Wenger was quoted as saying by ESPN.

So I think he has good link-up qualities, good quality of receptions, good finishing qualities. But let’s see if we can finish the job.”

Perez began his senior career at Atletico Madrid second reserve team. The 27-year old then joined Rayo Vallecano before moving to Ukrainian outfit, Karpaty Lviv, followed by a loan to Dynamo Kiev – who he made no appearance for.

He would then join PAOK in 2013 and, the Greek side loaned him to Deportivo before the Spanish outfit signed him on a permanent basis last season.
