Arsenal are underway in their latest set of contract negotiations. Their latest deal looks to extend Arsene Wenger’s stay in North London for another three years. The board are eager to secure the Frenchman’s long-term future and Wenger has given positive indications that he wants the same.
Despite the early talks, no deal will be signed in the next few weeks as the Gunners boss focuses on leading the team in their Far East pre-season tour before hosting the Emirates Cup. The Frenchman is also working hard to improve his current squad with a deal for number one target Gonzalo Higuain still not confirmed even many bookmakers and best online sportsbooks seem to think it is a matter of time before the deal is concluded.
The club have been linked with the Argentine since the end of the season and numerous reports over the last few weeks had suggested the deal was done, but there has been no official word from Higuain, Arsenal or Real Madrid as the Gunners faithful wait anxiously for the news.
Wenger is also looking at other possible targets in Wayne Rooney, Marouane Fellaini and Lars Bender while persuading Bacary Sagna to extend his current deal before penning a new contract for himself.
The squad will fly out to Indonesia before moving on to Vietnam and Japan for a four-game tour over 12 days. They then fly back to England to compete in their own tournament’ the Emirates Cup. They finish with a trip to Helsinki to face Premier League rivals Manchester City the week before the league opener at home to Aston Villa.
The Arsenal board are hopeful that Wenger will sign the deal towards the beginning of the season so that negotiations don’t get in the way of the seasons work. An early signing will also rule out the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain taking Wenger on a free next summer, with the French club a long-term admirer of the 63-year-old.
