According to former Gunner Ray Parlour, European championship leading scorer Antoine Griezmann would catapult the Gunners into the title race next season.
The Atletico Madrid striker signed a new five-year deal at the Capital City club earlier this summer despite interest from the English Premier League, but Ray Parlour thinks a player of Griezmann’s ability can put the Gunners firmly in the frame for the Premier League title next season.
The French striker led Atleti’s goal scoring charts in his first two seasons with the club and took his brilliant league form into the Euro 2016 with France, scoring six goals to help Didier Deschamp tutored France National team into Sunday’s final.
The Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be seeking attacking options ahead of the coming season and last week improved his pursuit of Alvaro Morata, while the French tactician retains an interest in French striker Alexandre Lacazette.
The Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has advised the Arsenal boss to fine-tune his purchasing attitude and seek a top striker, highlighting Griezmann as a kind of striker the Gunners need at the moment.
“We’d love to see Griezmann at Arsenal,” Parlour told Sky Sports.
“That’s the sort of quality they need. With Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil around they will always create chances. It’s not rocket science in terms of who they need. A striker needs to come in.
“Olivier Giroud has done well. He’s a good player but they need someone of the calibre of a Sergio Aguero or a Luis Suarez.
“They missed out on Suarez a few years ago. He would have been perfect for them and could have helped them go on to win the league.
“If they can get someone of that ilk then they could go on to challenge for the title next season.”
