We reported via Sport Review earlier in the summer that Arsene Wenger was interested in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani as the French tactician headed to Portugal in search of a striker to strengthen his squad ahead of the coming season.
Arsenal may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the player with reports emerging that Slimani has skipped training with his club in a bid to force a move to a top Premier League club.
Slimani had told the boss of Sporting Lisbon Jorge Jesus his desire to move to the Premier League and since he was denied, he failed to turn up for their training session, per reports. Sporting have since insisted that he was given permission to miss training but O Jogo are claiming differently.
Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a striker this summer transfer window and recently made a bid for Lyon’s Aleksandre Lacazette, which was rebuffedand Wenger may consider the 28-year-old attacker.
The striker was in good form for the Portuguese based club throughout last season and his displays for Lisbon hasn’t gone unnoticed as the Arsenal boss is said to be very impressed.
The youngster scored 31 goals in 44 games for Lisbon last season, an impressive stats for Arsenal who hasn’t have such a lethal striker since Van Persie left the club.
Slimani has a £24m release clause in his current deal according to the report.
