LIVERPOOL and Arsenal have received a huge boost in the chase for Thomas Lemar.
The Monaco star was much sought after in January but the Ligue 1 champions were desperate to keep hold of their top player at a pivotal point in the season.
However, the winger has since turned down a contract extension amidst hope that he will be allowed to leave at the end of the season, according to French publication L’Equipe.
Lemar’s current deal does not expire until the summer of 2020 but he has already revealed that it is a dream of his to play in England.
Liverpool where looking at the 22-year-old as a possible replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who was sold to Barcelona for £142million.
Arsenal also considered a move after they offloaded Alexis Sanchez to Manchester united.
But they were warned away in the winter window by Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev.
“He will stay at Monaco until the end of the season 100 per cent,” Vasilyev told RMC.
“If Liverpool or Arsenal come with a big offer before the end of the market? This is not relevant.
We will say ‘no’ because the objectives are clear. Without important players like Lemar, we will not succeed.”
But his comments did leave the door ajar for a move in the summer.
And if L’Equipe’s reports are correct, then it could see Lemar force through a move to the Premier League.
