AC Milan fans have ‘given up’ on Gianluigi Donnarumma staying at the club this summer, according to claims in the Italian media.
Friday’s Corriere della Sera writes that a farewell to the goalkeeper in the upcoming window is now ‘more likely’ than not. They say not many at the club would bet on the 19-year-old staying right now.
The Italian outlet claims Milan won’t make the first move, but they will listen to offers. Without European football and with Mino Raiola involved, they expect a transfer will be difficult to stop.
Milan are currently in the final spot for Europa League qualifiers, but only one point ahead of Atalanta. Fiorentina are also lurking three points behind. Either club could easily take the final spot with a win, given they both play the Italian side in the final two matches.
Donnarumma also made a couple of costly mistakes in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday, which Juventus ended up winning 4-0.
That’s likely to bring his market value down a bit, and maybe even attract more bidders as a result. All in all, it doesn’t look great for him staying at his current club.
Arsenal need a goalkeeper, as we all know. Signing someone as young and talented as Donnarumma could see the club set for years to come.
We’ll see if Sven Mislintat and co. take advantage of this clear rift between player, club and fans.
