There have been reports in the last one week that Former Schalke 04 striker Ciprian Marica who is a free agent is on his way to Arsenal. However, the latest reports from Spain and Romania this morning is that the striker may not be joining Arsenal after all but instead move to Spanish side, Getafe.
Ciprian Marica who left Schalke 04 last summer has been linked with several clubs with Inter Milan, Arsenal, West ham, his former club Shakhtar Donetsk leading the chasing pack. His agent even came out to say his client is very close to joining Arsenal on a free transfer.
“Marica is a really great striker who has already got experience in western European football and so it’s natural that big clubs are eying his career,”
“He’s close to joining Arsenal, but we have to wait for the next week.”
However, few days later, daily express are reporting Getafe have stolen the match on everyone and will likely complete the signing of this striker this week. If the reports are true and Arsenal end up not signing the player, it will actually be good news and not bad news for the gunners.
Personally, I do not think he is what Arsenal needs. It is true that we are short up front but Ciprian Marica’s stats are nothing to write home about. Arsenal letting go several players we regard as deadwoods, I do not think we should be replacing them with a player who has only managed to score a total of 5 goals in over 2 seasons in which he played at least 30 times.
