MANCHESTER UNITED and Arsenal are reportedly the frontrunners to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred this month.
Arsenal have already made one signing in the January transfer window with the £2million capture of Greek defender Konstantinos Mavrapons, although he won’t formally join until the summer.
Jose Mourinho meanwhile, is expected to be handed with a significant transfer kitty to make new signings.
A striker and a defender are high on the list of priorities, with Malcom and Danny Rose among the targets.
But according to the Star on Sunday, Donetsk attacking midfielder Fred is being monitored.
The report suggests United and Arsenal have signalled the most interest from the Premier League.
Manchester City are also in the mix, and the report suggests as many as 10 clubs want to sign him.
Fred is currently under contract with Donetsk until 2021.
Although he has previously served a drugs ban for testing positive for a diuretic, that hasn’t put off some of Europe’s big guns.
Napoli, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Valencia are all supposedly ready to make moves.
And the Star claim Paris Saint-Germain have also been informed of his availability.
