For the first time in a long while, Arsenal now have a very large squad and players have to proof their mettle in every game as there is no guarantee for a permanent spot in the first team.
Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has revealed that he wants a place in the team of Arsenal and he is ready to fight for a place with teammates Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka.
Before he sustained a knee injury, Coquelin has been somewhat regular in the team but he is not taken to chances.
However, Coquelin insists the competition for places can only be a good thing for the Arsenal squad.
“We are Arsenal Football Club and there will always be great quality in the squad so you have to be ready for a fight,” Coqelin said.
“It’s good for me to improve my game and give even more in training and in the game. It can only improve the whole squad.”
The 25-year-old insists he is now back to full fitness ahead of the Champions League clash with Ludogorets tomorrow night (7.45pm).
“I feel 100 per cent, it took me a while to get back to full fitness but I feel good now,” Coquelin added.
“When you make this kind of tackle, it happened before against West Brom, I was a bit scared in the first place.
“But the good thing was when I had done it I could run back on to the pitch, even if I did not stay on for long.
“The scan was positive so it’s all great.”
