Former Gunner Set To Ruin Arsenal’s Champions League Adventure?

Carlos Vela

Carlos Vela threatens to end Arsenal’s summer negatively. The former Arsenal forward joined Real Sociedad last summer with a buy-back clause in his contract, should Arsenal wish to activate it.

Vela had a superb season at Sociedad, benefiting from regular first team football and guided the club in to fourth place in La Liga, qualifying the club in to the Champions League via the play-offs.

There have been reports that Arsene Wenger had been considering using the buy-back clause to bring the rejuvenated Mexican back to the Emirates but Vela has pleaded that he wants to remain in Spain, and Wenger looks to honour his request, however that may not be the last Wenger and Arsenal see of Vela.

The two clubs could meet in the Champions League qualifiers and Vela could well score the goal that dumps the Gunners out of the competition before they make the group stages. Sociedad showed they are not to be a team underestimated last season and will prove to be a match for Arsenal.

This summer looks to be one of the greatest transfer window Arsenal have ever experienced with the club’s biggest ever transfer kitty available and world class players willing to join the Emirates club however all that could turn bad should they slip up in the qualifiers and against Sociedad.

Should the two clubs get paired together then Vela would also want to prove Arsenal wrong and that he should have got a bigger run in the team and that his future should have been with Arsenal.

Of course there is also the chance that should the two get past the qualifiers, then they could meet up in the group stages, however a loss in that stage isn’t as damaging as in the qualifiers.

Football often has a way of writing it’s own scripts and Vela against Arsenal could be the latest chapter.
