According to The Metro, Arsenal are ready to battle Real Madrid for the signing of Goalkeeper Kepa from Athletic Bilbao.
Growing speculation is mounting in Spain suggesting that Kepa, Athletic Bilbao’s 23-year-old Goalkeeper is being tracked by Arsenal, who may consider the player a long-term replacement for Petr Cech.
However, Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in the Spanish star and could make a move for Kepa, if they fail in their final attempt to land David De Ga from Manchester United.
Arsenal will be looking to strengthen their options in goal, with Petr Cech entering the twilight years of his career. With David Ospina not a viable first-team replacement and Emiliano Martinez not considered good enough to take the number one shirt, Kepa could well be an affordable option, if his £7.2million Transfermarkt valuation is anything to go by.
Over the past 18 months, Kepa has firmly established himself as the first choice stopper for an ever improving Athletic side.
The 23-year-old has featured in 10 of the Basque clubs’ 11 domestic games and has impressed with his composure and maturity in spite of his age.
Kepa is also starting to develop a string passing game, which seems to be a key element of the modern goalkeeper. His distribution is fantastic and his concentration when receiving the ball at his feet is tantamount to an outfield player.
Arsene Wenger would be wise to act fast in claiming Kepa, who could well be a star of the future.
