Rio Ferdinand names the area which he thinks Arsenal must address in the summer transfer window
The north London side have been in stuttering form in the Premier League this season and they fell to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Tottenham in Saturdays north London derby clash at Wembley.
Arsenal are now looking unlikely to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season, leaving Europa League glory as their most likely route back into the Champions League for next season.
The Gunners spent big on bolstering their attacking options in the January transfer window with the signings of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
However, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand feels that the Gunners have not addressed the key issue in the spine of their team in recent transfer windows.
Speaking to BT Sport after the loss to Spurs, Ferdinand said:“I feel like a broken record when I come on here and talk about Arsenal.
“Lacking concentration, lacking leadership in defence and the central area of the field.
“They’re lacking somebody to action govern that pitch. There have to be players who take responsibility and who take pride in keeping clean sheets and producing disciplined performance. They haven’t got that.”
Arsenal will take on Ostersund in the first leg of their Europa League last 32 clash on Thursday night.
The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
However, they have won the FA Cup in three of the last four seasons.
