Arsenal are set to fight Inter Milan for the signature of Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron, according to reports in Spain.
Don Balon claim that Arsenal are chasing the 23-year-old Paraguayan, and considered making a move in the summer, but are currently planning to go back for him in January. Inter Milan are also reportedly thinking about a bid.
Almiron is one of the most exciting prospects in the MLS at the moment. He was recently ranked as the number one player in the MLS’ list of 24 players under the the age of 24. He’s also previously been described as the heartbeat of the team in Atlanta.
Right now, Miguel is set to miss at least three weeks with injury, and the fact that Atlanta United are so worried about how they’ll do without him shows what they think of him.
However, it is the MLS, not one of Europe’s top-five leagues. Whether he could have the same sort of impact on this side of the Atlantic is debatable, and whether Arsenal would move for him in the first place is even more so, in my opinion.
The Gunners will certainly have a creative hole to fill if Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil both decide not to sign new deals and leave ahead of next season, but I’d expect Wenger to move for someone more proven to replace them.
I feel Arsenal already have a lot of strength in depth almost all over the pitch, it’s first-team players they need to look out for.
