Unai Emery has hinted he will seek the advice of Arsene Wenger over key members of the squad he inherited from the Frenchman. The Spaniard takes charge of Arsenal for the first time on Saturday against Borehamwood having spent the last two weeks running the rule over the players who have not been representing their countries at the World Cup.
Emery has made significant additions to his squad already this summer, making five new signings including Uruguay international Lucas Torreira and 19-year-old French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, whose arrivals were confirmed earlier this week. The former PSG boss revealed he had been passed information on his new players by club officials but also confirmed Wenger’s potential input would be ‘important’ to him.
‘Each coach needs to know the players,’ said the former Sevilla and Paris St-Germain boss. ‘Not all the coaches have the same relationship with a player and I have my personality. ‘I want to know with my direct opinion, with my direct conversations with the player. ‘I have information on the players from the club, from the people around me. ‘The information with Arsene is also important for me, but the best is my direct relationship and conversations with the players.’
