Its Friday morning, the Premier League season kicks off this Saturday but ours officially starts on Sunday with a game against Liverpool at the Emirates. To say Wenger is yet to bolster his attack and defence leaves a lot to be desired.
The signing of Granit Xhaka earlier in the summer meant our transfer window started on a good note. Sadly, it has been as good as that, in terms of the signing of first team players.
Skysports are reporting that Shkodran Mustafi has agreed personal terms with the Gunners. They go on to reveal that both clubs have had a gentleman’s agreement but paper works are still far from being thrashed out.
The 24-year-old Germany international, who is valued at around £30m, is still training with Valencia, and Wenger’s immediate focus is on preparing a team – including a makeshift defence.
Mustafi has been in the transfer radar of Arsenal but it appeared we were initially not interested in the tough tackler as a report claimed we did not table any offer for him. Nonetheless, the injury to Gabriel Paulista meant Arsenal are condemn to go all out for the player.
Arsenal are currently without any first team centre-back. Mertesacker and Paulista are currently sidelined with injuries while Koscielny is yet struggling for fitness.
