Today has been a positive day for Arsenal in the pursuit of Lucas Torreira, and things seem to be moving forward.
First, we covered claims from Italy that a €30m fee had been agreed between Arsenal and Sampdoria for the player. That’s €5m more than Torreira’s release clause and probably allows the Gunners to spread the payment.
Then came claims from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, on Sportitalia, that personal terms had been agreed. Terreira’s representatives secured a €3m a year (likely after tax) plus bonuses deal, and also agreed commission.
After that Gazzetta dello Sport reported independently that a transfer fee and personal terms had both been agreed.
Now, Ovacion in Uruguay (which is the sport section of major newspaper El Pais, and probably the country’s go-to football outlet), are also carrying a story.
They say a transfer fee has been agreed for the Frey Bentos born player, however, they don’t believe personal details have been agreed by agent Pablo Bentancur yet… although that could simply be that they don’t know. It’s added ‘both parties are optimistic that a successful outcome will be achieved and the transfer will be confirmed’.
Ovacion put the fee at €26m, which may be a conversion issue given the difference.
