According to reports in Germany, Arsenal is now hopeful of signing Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez.
The Wolfsburg defender is believed to be one of Arsenal’s top targets this summer following the £33m capture of Swiss international Granit Xhaka from German side Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Gunners have made formal contact with the Wolfsburg and a fee of €25m could be agreed which will see the deal completed after the European championship according to German publication Bild viaRedLondon.net.
Wolfsburg are set to sell Rodriguez, with the club’s Sporting Director Klaus Allof revealing that the defender and his teammate Gustavo have asked to be sold this summer.
Allof revealed the defender’s release clause is valid until July 1st and the player would be more expensive for any suitor after the said ultimatum.
“We are on the alert and we are prepared [to sell]. They [Ricardo Rodriguez and Luiz Gustavo] will not get cheaper, rather the opposite.” Allofs said.
‘There is enough time to come to a decision during that period.’
‘We’d need to internally discuss a transfer at a later date.’
The Swiss international is currently with the Switzerland national team in France and has disclosed he is open to a move Arsenal. It is now left to Arsene Wenger to act fast within the ultimatum given if he wants to sign the defender for a relatively cheap fee.
