ARSENAL have made an improved bid for Monaco star Thomas Lemar, it has been claimed in France.
Lemar, 21, played a key role for Monaco last season, both domestically and in Europe.
He made 55 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and assisting 17 along the way.
His performances helped the Ligue 1 outfit claim a first league title in 17 years and reach the last four of the Champions League.
Lemar was also rewarded with his first minutes for France in a friendly against the Ivory Coast at the end of last year.
And Arsene Wenger is seemingly desperate to snap up the winger, who still has three years left to run on his contract at the Stade Louis II.
According to L’Equipe, the Gunners have already had a bid of around £35m rejected by Monaco.
But they are now said to have returned with an improved offer of £40m.
Lemar could follow his compatriot Alexandre Lacazette across the Channel to north London.
The Lyon striker completed a club-record £52m move to the Emirates on Wednesday.
Arsenal have also signed Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Schalke this summer.
