Arsenal have completed a deal to sign Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to reporter Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have emerged as favourites to sign the Uruguay international from the Serie A outfit over the past week or so.
Arsenal were reported to have shown a willingness to exceed Torreira’s contract release clause in order to pay the South American’s transfer fee in installments.
Torreira has been tipped to be one of the breakthrough stars of the World Cup following his impressive performances in the Sampdoria midfielder in Serie A.
The 22-year-old is thought to have a £22m (€25m) release clause in his current deal with the Italian club to make him an attractive proposition given the inflated transfer market.
However, Arsenal are thought to be ready to cough up £26m (€30m) for the Uruguay international to secure his signature ahead of the World Cup.
Sky Italia reporter Romano confirmed that the Gunners have concluded a deal for Torreira before he added that he doesn’t know when Arsenal will officially announce the transfer.
Asked by an Arsenal supporter on the social media website if the north London side have wrapped up their second summer signing, Romano wrote on Twitter: “[Torreira] is done mate! But I don’t know when [it] will be announced.”
Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot for the second successive season.
