According to a report in the Daily Star, Arsenal are now facing a tough battle with Barcelona and Tottenham to sign Nice’s £35m-rated midfielder Jean-Michael Seri this summer.

Arsene Wenger is expected to carry on as Arsenal manager and oversee a squad overhaul over the coming weeks and central midfield needs to be a priority area for strengthening.

Santi Cazorla has missed the majority of the season through injury so he can’t be relied upon next year while Aaron Ramsey has endured another frustrating campaign and I personally don’t think he’s the right fit for our new 3-4-2-1 formation.

It looks like Wenger is already working on potential targets as the Guardian reported earlier this month that we had held talks with Seri’s agent about a possible switch to north London.

The 25-year-old has just come off the back of an excellent season that saw him score seven goals and provide a further nine assists to help Nice finish third in Ligue 1.

The report says the Ivory Coast midfielder has a £35m buyout clause in his contract but we could look to drive the price down as he’s about to enter the final year of his deal.

The box-to-box midfielder has the potential to be an excellent partner for Xhaka or perhaps even Cazorla when he’s fit so he would be a welcome addition to the squad.

However, it looks like we’ll face some stiff competition as the Daily Star are citing a report from Nice Matin that claims Barcelona are now right in the mix to secure his signature.

The local Nice newspaper says that Barca have also held talks with Seri’s representatives about a move to the Nou Camp while Tottenham are also believed to be showing a keen interest.

So it looks like we have a battle on our hands to sign the Ivorian this summer. Let’s just see how things progress but it will be tough for him to turn down a move to Barca….
