Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is reportedly closing in on a £14million transfer to Champions League finalists Juventus after impressing on loan at AS Roma.
The Poland international has spent the last two seasons at the Stadio Olimpico after losing his place in Arsene Wenger’s first-team, and could now be set for a surprise move.
Szczesny initially impressed as a youngster at Arsenal, but has failed to live up to that early potential seen in him, prompting Wenger to sign Petr Cech to replace him in the summer of 2015.
Still, Juventus are clearly fans of the 27-year-old and are looking to bring him in as a long-term successor to the legendary Gianluigi Buffon.
AC Milan and Napoli have also shown an interest in Szczesny after his impressive performances in Serie A, but he’s edging closer to a move to Turin for £14million, according to the Daily Mail.
Szczesny’s agent apparently plans for the player to hold final talks with Arsenal and Wenger before completing the move, but it’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll be a Juventus player next season.
This could be a double blow for Arsenal as they also look set to lose backup ‘keeper David Ospina to Fenerbahce, meaning they surely need to sign someone else to provide cover to Cech or even challenge him for a starting spot.
