ARSENAL have moved a step closer to signing Denis Suarez after Barcelona secured Kevin-Prince Boateng’s services on loan.
That is according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, who provided the update prior to Sassuolo sanctioning Boateng’s move to the Nou Camp.
Arsenal are set for a pretty quiet January transfer window with Unai Emery admitting funds are on the short side this month.
But, with loan deals still an option, they are pursuing Barcelona midfielder Suarez, who has struggled since returning to Catalunya.
Emery coached Suarez during his time at Barcelona and is keen to add his fellow Spaniard to his squad for the rest of the season.
Schira provided an update on Suarez’s potential switch on Monday as Barcelona finalised the loan signing of Boateng.
And it’s apparently good news for Arsenal as they look to get the 25-year-old on board before deadline day.
“The arrival of Kevin Prince #Boateng at #Barcellona releases #DenisSuarez for #Arsenal,” Schira wrote on Twitter.
Arsenal may strike a deal with Barcelona that means they have to sign Suarez on a permanent basis in the summer.
The Gunners are due to wave goodbye to their own midfielder Aaron Ramsey then, with his contract due to expire.
Former Tottenham and Liverpool man Jamie Redknapp says it will not be cheap to replace the Wales international.
“Arsenal are counting the cost of letting star players run down their contracts,” Redknapp said.
“Faced with losing both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez last January, the club panicked.
“Not only are they in a situation where Emery cannot buy any players this month, Arsenal will also have to spend at least £40million this summer to replace Ramsey.
