The Gunners are aiming to make Miguel Almirón a deadline day signing, with reports suggesting a deal is imminent.
Speculations were rife, yesterday, that Arsenal are keen on signing the Lanus midfielder – with Arséne Wenger not done in the transfer market after the confirmation of Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi as Arsenal players.
According to The Daily Star who cite reports in Paraguay, Arsenal are very close to the signing of Almiron.
They go ahead to say the agent of the player has clearly said his client is on the brink of joining the Gunners for €9.4m [£8m].
Lanus made his bow for Paraguay in the Copa America this year and is highly-rated in his native. He left Paraguayan outfit Club Cerro Porteno for Argentine’s Lanus last year. His performances for Lanus has now caught the eye, with Arsenal really keen on the attacking midfielder.
But the idea of bringing in another attacking midfielder to Arsenal is perplexing, as Arsenal have enough quality in that department. Arséne Wenger has enough in his ranks that he is willing to let Jack Wilshere leave on loan, with Mohammed El Neny, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin all vying for a place in the starting line-up.
