Arsenal have agreed a fee with Sampdoria to sign midfielder Lucas Torreira this summer, according to reports.
The Gunners have identified the Torreira, the Uruguay international, as a top target this summer as new boss Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad following his appointment as manager of the north London club.
Torreira, 22, has a release clause of £22m (€25m) but, according to Sport Mediaset, Arsenal have agreed to pay slightly over the required amount, splashing out £26m (€30m) on him.
Under those terms, the Gunners are able to spread the cost of the transfer fee over a number of years, rather than paying it all up front now.
The signing of Torreira will be seen as a major coup for Arsenal, who want to bring in a new central midfielder this summer, as he’s regarded as one of the finest young players in the game.
Torreira had held talks with Borussia Dortmund and other top European clubs, but he is keen to head to north London and join the Premier League club.
Emery has already wrapped up one signing since his appointment at the Emirates, with Stephan Lichtsteiner, the Switzerland full-back, arriving on a free transfer from Juventus.
