According to report via The Guardian , Arsenal are on the verge of signing Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria for £26.4 million (€30m/$35m).

The Uruguayan has enjoyed a breakout season and could be on his way to the Emirates Stadium and the Gunners have now exceeded Torreira’s release clause in order to beat Napoli to the signing and will complete the deal imminently.

Torreira broke into the Uruguay squad this year and is currently with the national team as they prepare for the World Cup.

A tricky no.10, made 74 appearances for Sampdoria since joining the club back in 2015 but the 22-year-old midfielder is expected to complete a move to north London ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

The likes of Atletico Madrid, Inter, AC Milan, Juventus and Liverpool all reported being showing major interested in the Uruguayan who made his senior international debut in March, Samp are already facing a fight to keep him.

Arsenal have already made one signing since Unai Emery replaced Arsene Wenger, with right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner joining on a free transfer from Juventus.
