Does Announced Players’ Contract Renewal Mean Wenger Is Signing New Deal?

Arsene Wenger

Arsenal’s midfield pair of Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla have signed new contract extension with the club. Ramsey who joined Arsenal as a teenager from Cardiff back in 2008 is currently recovering from a tight injury which has kept him out since December but was in fine form before that scoring 13 goals in all competitions this season.

Ramsey’s new contract extension would see him remain at the Emirates till 2019. Speaking to Ramsey said: ” I am delighted to have signed a new deal, I have been have for six year and I am so happy. I think we have shown so fa this season what we are about and what direction this club wants to go in. I want to be a part of that and to be a part of something special at Arsenal. We have a great team which we believe can achieve great things.”

Meanwhile midfielder Santi Cazorla who joined from Malaga in the summer of 2012 and was named the club’s player of the year last season has also signed an extension to his current contract till 2017. The 29-year-old said he believes Arsenal can finally end their 9 seasons trophy drought as they face Wigan in the semi-final of the F.A Cup and are just 4 points behind league leaders Chelsea with a game in hand.

“I’m so happy to have signed a new contract with Arsenal. This club makes me very happy – the manager, my team-mates, the fantastic supporters, the stadium and the whole organisation here. Cazorla told

I have had a great time with the Club since joining nearly two years ago, and I think that we can be a big player in competing for the top trophies in years to come and that’s important for me. I have already had lots of good moments here and hopefully there will be many more to come.”

The club also announced that youngster Gedion Zelalem has also put pen to paper to extend his stay at the Emirates. Zelalem who made his debut for the club in a 4-0 win over Coventry became the first player born after Wenger reign as manager began to play for the club.

Wenger said : “We are pleased that Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Gedion Zelalem have. Committed their future to the club. Cazorla and Ramsey are absolutely key for us and this news is a boost for the whole club. Zelalem is young of course, but he has shown already that he has fantastic promise, and we all look forward to his development with us.”

This is all good news as earlier in the month Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky both also extended their contracts. It is hoped that the situation with Bacary Sagna would be resolved quickly enough so, we can focus on winning games and trophies. Also, the re-signing of these players probably mean Wenger is also going to sign a new deal with the club as I can not imagine them putting pen to paper if Wenger has not assured them he is going to sign a new contract with Arsenal.
