Arsenal fans have been left scratching their heads in recent weeks as to why the club’s deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos has not been announced.
The Greek defender is set to follow Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno to the Emirates this summer as part of the defensive rebuild being pushed through by head coach Unai Emery and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.
A deal has been agreed between the club and the Borussia Dortmund centre-back, who turned 30 on June 9, is believed to have already travelled to England and undergone his medical ahead of his £16 million switch.
Yet, still there has been no announcement from either club, leading some fans to question what is going on?
Well, the German media believe they have an explanation – and they also state that the wait for official confirmation of the transfer will not come for another week or so yet.
Kicker report that Dortmund do not want the transfer to go through until the next financial year, so nothing will be announced until July 1 at the earliest.
Arsenal will be in no rush, despite fans wanting to hear news, with the squad not due to report back for pre-season training until the week starting Monday, July 2.
