Arsenal fringe player Joel Campbell has pleaded with the club not to send him on a sixth loan spell, according to a recent report.
The Guardian has revealed that the 25-year-old is reluctant to go on loan again after spending most of his time away from the Emirates, and wants to work his way back up to the first-team.
The newspaper claims on their website that the Costa Rica international returned to the Gunners’ Colney training ground on Monday and is looking to rebuild his fitness following a knee injury which he picked up earlier in the summer while on international duty.
It is understood that boss Arsene Wenger is looking to cut down on some of his squad members as he has 28 senior players in the squad and 17 non-homegrown players.
Campbell joined the north London side from Saprissa back in 2011, but failed to play regular first team football until the 2015/16 season where he made 30 appearances, scored four goals and provided six assists.
However, the Costa Rica international have been on loan spells away with the likes of FC Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiacos, Villarreal and most recently Sporting CP.
The winger has had to compete with the likes of Theo Walcott for his spot on the right wing and hasn’t featured for the Gunners since the end of May in 2016 after he played just two minutes of the club’s 4-0 victory over Aston Villa.
Campbell has just 12 months of his contract remaining as his deal expires next summer
