Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been eyeing up a move for Belgian international Yannick Carrasco over the last few weeks, but the Gunners could be set for a fatal blow in their quest to sign the 25-year-old, as according to Carrasco’s wife Noemie Happart, Manchester United are also lining up a potential move for the winger.
Emery has made it pretty clear that he has very little money to spend in January, so Carrasco’s move from Chinese club Dalian Yifang to the Gunners would most likely have to be a loan move, so that could see them fall behind United in the race to grab Carrasco’s signature.
Speaking on Belgian TV channel rtbf.be, Happart has spoken openly about Carrasco’s possible move back to Europe by saying, “There are lots of clubs looking at him. Lots of clubs have been in touch with him. Lots of clubs are interested, added Happart
“Yannick has received offers from Germany, Spain, England and Italy but nothing has been truly concrete up to now, nothing has been signed.”
“Yes, they’re very interested,” she said when asked about Manchester United. “I won’t hide it from you but nothing has been signed,” concluded Happart.
Carrasco moved to China 11 months ago, but is looking for a switch back to Europe, and having blossomed for Atletico Madrid he could be a valuable commodity for whoever wins the race to grab his signature, but United have now entered the race for the Gunners target, and the battle between the two Premier League clubs could hot up over the coming weeks.
Carrasco was part of the Belgian World Cup side that finished third and he has already won 34 clubs with his country, and will surely relish a move back to Europe to contest in some of the world’s greatest leagues.
