The latest injury to Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker has compelled Arsenal to ortsbe on the look for an instant and long term replacement.
According to reports in Germany, Arsenal are currently in talks with Spanish outfit Valencia and are on the verge of completing a deal for Shkodran Mustafi.
Mustafi, 24, has been linked with Arsenal even before this summer and with Mertesacker who only has one year left on his contract ruled out till at least February, it is understandable as to why Wenger may be interested in signing the German.
Mustafi joined Everton in the summer of 2009 after turning down offers from Manchester City and Newcastle United. He had a torrid spell with the Merseyside club. He moved to the Seria A before joining Valencia in the summer of 2014 and has since been impressive.
His stellar defending saw the club inserted a £42.1m but Sky understands Arsenal can get him for a little over half ( £25.3m ) of the release clause but coupled with £8.4m in add-ons. Arsenal are understood to very much ready to spend of the right players and Mustafi falls into that category.
He is expected to walk straight into the first team of Arsenal.
