The young striker made his first appearance for the senior side in the club’s pre-season friendly against the Indonesian Dream Team where he managed to score. He started that game and has gone on to make a further three substitute appearances contributing four goals in total.
Arsenal are set to host the annual Emirates Cup next weekend and the English forward is hoping he is part of the squad for the tournament as well as club’s campaign for the upcoming season.
“The tour has really motivated me, when you see the receptions the teams gets here. Experience-wise it’s been great too because I have been playing against national teams.”
“That’s a big change from the teams I normally play against. I’m enjoying it and soaking up the whole experience. It’s really good and I hope I’m involved next year as well.”
The 17-year old has been at Arsenal since he was seven and managed to net 18 goals for the Gunners youth teams last year, he will be hoping to make his official debut next season.
“It’s been great, I’ve never experienced anything like this before.”
“We all mix as a squad. Everyone is really nice to us younger players. They are all funny actually, especially Lukas, he likes to bring everyone together and there is a lot of banter.”
Akpom came off the bench to net the winner in Arsenal’s final game of their Asia Tour against Urawa Red Diamonds and is eager to continue playing with the first-team, starting with the Emirates Cup.
