It seems it won’t be a stroll in the park for Arsenal in the race for Schalke’s star Julian Draxler. Recent reports have suggested that the Gunners were firm favourites to seal the signature of the coveted star but emerging reports have it that their London rival Chelsea are also keen to land the talented German and to this end, they are ready to make a swap offer for him.
The Daily Star report that the Blues are hoping to make a huge breakthrough in the race to sign Arsenal and Manchester United target Draxler by offering winger Kevin De Bruyne as part of a mega transfer deal.
Draxler is growing increasingly frustrated by being played out of position by manager Jens Keller and voiced his concerns earlier this week. According to reports in Germany, Chelsea are seeking to end Draxler’s frustrations by offering out-of-favour winger De Bruyne as part of a deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Interesting. Chelsea are also equally filled up in the attacking midfield positions with Mata, Hazard, Willian and Oscar already battling for places so where do they intend playing Draxler? The young German has voiced out his discomfort at playing on the wings while Mourinho has consistently insisted that Brazilian attacker Oscar was his best bet for the number 10 role. If Mata can’t displace Oscar despite his abilities and his track record at Chelsea in his maiden season, is it the newcomer Draxler that would do it?
My take is that both Arsenal and Chelsea aren’t suited for Draxler not because he isn’t good enough to play there but because both teams are already well stocked in the number 10 position with Ozil and Oscar. It doesnt augur well for Draxler’s football development to sit on the bench.
